Paintball Markers Make the Game
A
paintball marker
or gun is the most essential equipment of the game. It is used to hit
the opponent with the paintball. The term marker is used more often
than gun to diminish the view that paintball is a dangerous game. Since
the initial purpose of these guns was to mark trees and animals by
farmers and the foresters, the name remained.
Before deciding to buy a paintball marker, it is best to try your hand
on a few rented ones. Once you are sure of your interest in the game
then it would be good to select a marker that is strong and does not
need gentle handling. A marker that is easy to clean and maintain is a
definite plus point. A few of the common first maker purchases are,
Tipp Mann 98, A-5, Smart Parts Ion and Sypder. Paintball
markers
have a wide variety ranging from low-end models that are easy on the
damage done to your wallet as well as your opponent, to highly
professional electronic markers that of course cost a lot more.
There are four major parts to a paintball marker. There is a body of
the marker, the hopper, the tank that stores the gas, and the barrel.
The body of the marker can be of various types. But one must try and
pick one that is not very cumbersome and is a color that can be easily
camouflaged. The Hopper (loader) loads the paintball while the tank
houses the gas, usually CO2 or Nitrogen, that helps create the
pressure. There are different systems of operation in a Hopper. The
gravity feed hoppers are low in cost and can shoot a maximum of only
eight balls in a second. Their biggest flaw is that they jam easily.
The stick feed hopper lies parallel to the barrel and houses about ten
to twenty paintballs in it. The Agitating Hopper uses the propelling
action to load the paintball and this overcomes the problem of the
gravity hopper. The most common hopper used in today’s time
when
the need to fire quicker than gravity can manage are the Force-fed
hoppers. The barrel is to fire the shot and can be a one piece,
two-piece or a three-piece barrel. The length of the barrel ranges from
ten inches to forty inches, but it is now clear that the length of the
barrel does not enhance the player advantage in any way.
Other important parts of a marker are the valve, the bolt and the
pneumatic system, the bore and the spin barrels. The bore must match
the brand of the paint being used failing which the speed could falter
resulting in misses. Spin barrel are usually of two kinds a flat line
or an Apex. Paintball markers can be upgraded by adding more advanced
barrels or triggers.
Paintball markers have been used by police officers as antiriot
weapons. They are loaded with pepper balls and are fired to dispense
crowds without doing them any serious damage. So the next time you are
asked to put your hands up in the air remember that the officer could
be carrying a paintball marker.
